The “Democracy Platform,” a coalition of six left-leaning and progressive parties, has officially announced its list of candidates for 138 parliamentary constituencies ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Election. The announcement was made on Thursday (October 9) at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) by Hasnat Kayum, the chief coordinator of the State Reform Movement and the alliance’s convenor.
Among the 138 candidates are several prominent leaders: Mahmudur Rahman Manna (Bogura-2) from Nagorik Oikya, Saiful Haque (Dhaka-8) from Revolutionary Workers Party, Zonayed Saki (Brahmanbaria-6) from Ganasamhati Andolon, Tania Rob (Lakshmipur-4) from JSD, Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan (Feni-3) from JSD, Hasnat Kayum (Kishoreganj-5) from State Reform Movement, and Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu (Jamalpur-5) from Bhasani Janashakti Party.
Earlier, on September 27, the BNP requested allied movements and political groups to submit their potential candidate lists for seat-sharing discussions. Following multiple meetings, the Democracy Platform finalized its preliminary list and plans to formally hand it over to BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman during an upcoming meeting.
According to sources, Tarique Rahman and BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury have already communicated with top leaders of allied parties to collect their proposed lists. However, BNP has not yet set a final submission deadline.
The development reflects growing coordination among the opposition alliances as they prepare to challenge the ruling Awami League in the forthcoming national polls.
